Usually I don't buy used airplanes,
and more, is very unusual for me to buy crashed airplanes, but for all rules are
exceptions and Katana is one, my friend Bo had a slight accident with this
airplane and since is moving only to electric planes he made a proposal and I
decided to buy this second hand crashed airplane together with my field friend
Vitor.
| The old
proprietary, friend Bo, speaking with my actual co proprietary of the
airplane, friend Vitor, in the ground a few of Bo's airplanes including
the Katana that he sold to us. An interesting point is Bo designs is own
airplanes and we can see one o those in the photo. It's very usual we
get together to fly all over this small country. |

Here are the half wings,
that are attached to fuselage sides and get together by an aluminium
tube and hold in place by a spring and one screw per panel. It's a small
plane (1,35 m) more or less, control surfaces are very large allowing
very fast rotation around this axis. |
| The airplane was
configured to use one standard servo for elevator, but since Bo used a
twin nano servo in the back of fuse I decided to use them also (not to
leave more open holes) in my case I used the cheapest ones in the market
0,9 Kg torque and they work quite ok. Surfaces are also very large and
effective. |

The worse part of Bo's ideas, this airplane is called
Katana .50 (guess why) but Bo find a .50 much for the airplane so he
decided to use a very nice engine (Irvine .36) but not for this
aircraft, it flies, of course it flies but is very under power, but this
problem is solved and the airplane is now dragged by another .50 Webbra. |
| Vitor,
refuelling the animal, the fuel with .36 last for almost half an our it
seems to never end, after 15 minutes you are already tired, so you pass
the airplane to next guy and he can fly for another 15 min without a
problem. |

It's a fantastic airplane, it handles
like a trainer, be careful not to stall because it needs more time and height to
recover from a stall. Some speed is required while landing, once I made this
error, leave the airplane "hanged" on the wind and at about half a meter from
the ground the wind stop and the plane dropped like a rock, the result was a
broken landing gear and the rest of day watching how the other guys fly.
