This
sailplane is a kit Great Planes and it was the ideal first sailplane a
few years ago, nowadays there are lot's of "less destructible" planes
as first choice. It's a fantastic airplane, it flies on low breeze by
can face harder days, but it's not a good plane for really bad winds.
Is also a good thermal catcher, in fact is the only plane I have flown
in exclusive thermal winds. Since it was my first contact with a
sailplane, almost everything I know was learnt with this airplane
(excluding aerobatics, it doesn't even has ailerons).

I've built this
airplane long ago (1994) this was
my second kit, being the first one an Aerostar .40 from midwest already
trashed, so I spent some time building it, I made
some extra work, like the non obligatory spoiler, I still remember my
idea, if it can use three of my four available channels why use only
two, yes is very silly, but spoiler are very useful especially on those
windy days on short landing spots. |

One
of the latest "had on" a low battery indicator in the "instruments
panel", it is a simple bright red led that goes on below 4,4 Volt, it
begins to blink on servo movements and then become always on, and that
is were we should have it on firm ground. |

Is a very nice
plane to fly, very stable, very calm
and predictable, it can reach considerable speed and does a very nice
looping, also perform an interesting stall turn, it can do a toneux but
is a very long one and nothing nice to see. |

With
78" span, we can get go a bit far without problems, being a double
dihedral wing is so predictable while flying that I even leave it in
front o the Sun for a while so my personal photographer can do those
photos, after the photo I only need to turn the airplane and it appears
where expected. |
|
| In these images we
can see the spoilers opened, the
effect is similar to put a rock on top of the plane, I made a small
pull up in the elevator (10%) to compensate noise down attitude when
spoilers are opened, so the only thing that happens is a loss in speed,
very useful in a windy day like this one. |

It's
always a pleasure to fly this plane, very relaxing an calm, is possible
to heat a sandwich while flying this one.
